Solar Winds on 1/30
Embrace the chaos of spring with Zan de Parry, Carmen Malis King, Jennifer Quartararo & Brett Cimbalik
Happy New Year, friends! I’m thrilled to present this upcoming Field Trip-related poetry event at The Black Salt in Hamtramck. Hold on to your hats.
Solar Winds
Thurs 1/30, 7 pm
The Black Salt
2764 Florian St,Hamtramck
Featuring poetry by Zan de Parry, Carmen Malis King & Jennifer Quartararo
Plus, live music from Brett Cimbalik
This event is part of the 3rd annual Imbolc series (which is hosting several other very cool events).
For the unfamiliar, Imbolc is an ancient Celtic celebration that occurs exactly at the midpoint between winter and spring. It is a time to lay the groundwork for spring, observe signs of it where we can, and prepare.
To celebrate, I’ve invited three excellent SW Michigan area poets to read at The Black Salt, a metaphysical cafe in Hamtramck. Brett Cimbalik will perform a generative ambient soundtrack to the event created using live weather data. Learn more here.
About the artists
Carmen Malis King is a Detroit-rooted writer, community herbalist, and mother. Her writing has been published in the Wayne Literary Review, Bullet Train, and Ofrenda Magazine, and in her poetry chapbook Now/Again released by Awe Society Press in 2024. Carmen’s writing weaves together ancestral stories, eco-somatics, cultural liminality, and dream states.
Jennifer Quartararo: Originally from Maine, Jennifer has been based in Detroit since 2017. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Northern Michigan University and her essays have appeared in Hotel Amerika, Quarter After Eight, saltfront: studies in human habit(at), and Hobart--among others. Her first book, An Arbitrary Formation of Unspecified Value (BUNNY Presse), was released last year.
Zan de Parry wrote Cold Dogs (The Song Cave, 2024) and lives in Michigan with his beautiful dog and seven year old bride.
Brett Cimbalik is a Detroit-based multi-instrumentalist and one half of the electronic duo Super Public. They have released on Chambray Records, including the LP Sunrider with Brad Fritcher along with several EPs and remixes.
For those of you intrepid enough to read to the bottom, I recommend you save the weekend of February 22/23 if you live close to Detroit. More soon.
